TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — It’s been greater than 30 years since Bragg Memorial Stadium at FAMU was renovated.
Darrell Travis remembers going to Bragg Memorial Football Stadium at FAMU again within the 1960s. “The stadium means a whole lot. It brings a lot of joy to the family when games come. You can bring your kids and say this is your heritage from way back,” he stated.
FAMU athletics and finance directors advised a committee of the Board of Trustees Tuesday, the stadium wants $622,000 in structural repairs and inner stair alternative.
“The restrooms, the gates, the stands themselves could be a little more comfortable. It’s old. It just looks old,” stated Rhalia Lucas, a FAMU graduate.
The athletics division has a deficit of $651,724.
Management recommends the division implement an aggressive fundraising technique and develop a contingency plan to tackle the 2017 soccer residence video games.
Area resident Keenan Jenkins stated, “When you’re trying to recruit players to try to strengthen your team and your program, you want to have a nice facility for these young student athletes to visit and feel at home, feel comfortable and make them want to work and grow within these facilities. You can get them here and rebuild your program.”
Fundraising methods embrace growing athletic alumni engagement by 50-percent, and ramp up company and enterprise giving to $2 million.
The tentative contingency plan for house video games on the stadium is to relocate patrons to protected zones, and set up moveable seating to accommodate for closed sections beneath development.
The fundraising objectives for part one repairs are $225,000 by March 2017, and $400,000 in June.
